Students attend a 50 minute Visual Arts lesson each week in a well-equipped Art room with a Visual Arts specialist teacher.
The Visual Arts program includes the art methods of drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, modelling and construction. The emphasis is to provide students with key skills and techniques appropriate to each method. All students have the opportunity to enjoy, experiment, develop and create unique art works.
Where appropriate, the Visual Arts program provides cross-curricular links to year level topics, generating strong cultural, social and educational bonds.
Art history is also covered during the year, as well as the work of Famous Artists.
Students’ art works are continually displayed during the year on display boards along the buildings’ corridors.
Beverley Hills Primary School holds a biennial Art Show, usually in mid-November, were all students have a fantastic experience exhibiting their art works for their family and visitors to view. Exhibiting their work is an important part of creating artworks and building confidence. To coincide with an Art Show, an Artist in Residence attends the school for one week as an incursion in normal Visual Art classes.
Each year the Year 6 students work together to create an art installation as a memento of their time here. Each year a different idea and art method is the focus. The artwork is unveiled at Graduation night.
