Sport

House Sport

All students are placed into a House group. The Year 6 House Captains help staff to co-ordinate whole-school House activities, including: Run for Fun Day, which enables selection of the cross country team; Physical Education Activity Week; and the end-of-year House Sports Fun Day.

Senior School students participate in the House Swimming Carnival and the House Athletics Carnival, to facilitate selection of the School Swimming Team and the School Athletics Team. The House Swimming Carnival, held at Aquarena in Doncaster, caters for swimmers and non-swimmers alike, by utilising the 50m pool and the shallow end. We also celebrate the day by finishing off with the water slide. The House Athletics Carnival is held at Tom Kelly Athletics’ Track in Doncaster East. All Years 3 – 6 students are tested and measured on nine events at the track: ball throw (javelin), discuss, high jump, long jump, shot put, triple jump, 80m hurdles, 100m and 200m.

Clinics

Throughout the year, students participate in a number of Sport Clinics ranging from Football, Hockey, Athletics and Soccer.

In Term 4, Grade 6 students participate in the Wheeltalk program. This helps to raise awareness of disability sports, spinal injury prevention and the benefit of an active lifestyle. Furthermore, it encourages acceptance and integration of wheelchair sport, and creates a greater understanding of people with disabilities. This is reinforced with a game of wheelchair basketball, where the students are given the unique opportunity to experience wheelchair sports for themselves by competing in a wheelchair basketball game.

Interschool Sport

Our school is affiliated with School Sport Victoria. Year 5 and Year 6 BHPS students play against other teams within the North Box Hill District in Terms 1, 2 and 3 in a variety of sports. Equal opportunity for both girls and boys is provided, and fair play and good sportsmanship are encouraged at all times. Winter sports are: Football, T-ball, Basketball and Netball. Summer Sports are: Cricket, Volleyball, Newcomb and Softball. We also run a Round Robin competition for Soccer, Tennis and Basketball.

Various before-school and lunch-time trainings are conducted to prepare students for events.

Senior School students also participate in Hooptime, a State-wide Basketball Program. Over the years we have been very successful in this Program.

Saturday Basketball

The School Community organises participation in a basketball competition held at local stadiums on Saturdays.
